The Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI) is North America’s leading certifier for commercial compostability. BPI certification means a product has been tested against ASTM D6400 or ASTM D6868 standards and verified to break down in industrial composting facilities.
Greenprint® Compostable Agave Straws and Cutlery both carry BPI certification. This tells composters and regulators that these products meet the disintegration and biodegradation requirements for commercial facilities.
BPI certification also includes PFAS-free verification. Certified products must meet limits for total organic fluorine, confirming they won’t introduce harmful chemicals into compost streams.
TÜV Austria OK Compost HOME
TÜV Austria is a European certification body that offers both industrial and home compostable certification. The OK Compost HOME mark is a higher bar than industrial certification because it verifies breakdown at ambient temperatures.
Most PLA products require the sustained heat of industrial composting. Our Compostable Agave Straws carry TÜV Austria OK Compost HOME certification because of Greenprint’s proprietary enzyme technology. This enzyme masterbatch catalyzes the breakdown of PLA polymer chains at lower temperatures. The result is full biodegradation in backyard compost conditions.

ASTM D6400 and D6868 Standards
ASTM D6400 and ASTM D6868 are the scientific standards that define what “compostable” means in the United States. D6400 covers compostable plastics. D6868 covers coatings and adhesives applied to substrates like paper.

Third-Party PFAS Testing
PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are synthetic chemicals that resist breakdown in the environment. Some foodservice packaging has historically used PFAS for grease resistance. Greenprint® products are PFAS-free, verified through third-party laboratory testing.
Our Compostable Agave Straws and Cutlery are BPI certified with PFAS limits verified. Our Fiberware™ products (clamshells, plates, bowls) have been tested by Intertek across multiple PFAS compounds, with all results showing “Not Detected.”

Transparent Sourcing From Agave to Product
Transparent sourcing means knowing where your materials come from and how they move through production. At Greenprint®, we control our supply chain from raw agricultural waste to finished product. This visibility is central to how we prove compostable certification authenticity.
Our Compostable Agave products start with agave fiber sourced as post-tequila agricultural waste. This fiber comes from small farming families in Jalisco, Mexico, the heart of tequila production. The region generates a large volume of agave plant waste annually after harvesting.
Unlike bamboo (shipped from Asia) or wheat straw (often diverted from animal feed), agave waste has no competing use. This makes our sourcing a pure waste-to-value model. It also creates direct revenue for farming families who previously had to dispose of this agricultural byproduct.
From Jalisco, agave fiber moves to our vertically integrated manufacturing facility in Santa Catarina, Nuevo León, Mexico.
